You can make a difference for Taronga’s animals, we're re-lion on you
It’s been a difficult year for many, and our Zoo’s are no exception. Between the devastating bushfires and drought of 2019/2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic we’re feeling the impact of these external pressures. As restrictions ease around the country, we look forward to the day when we can once again welcome visitors on site, however the effects of these catastrophic events will be felt for some time to come and our animals still need the food and care our dedicated team always gives.
Despite the turbulent times, our vets and keepers are working tirelessly behind the scenes to look after the 5,000 animals in our care at both Taronga Zoo Sydney and Taronga Western Plains Zoo. We also continue to support and look after injured and impacted bushfire and drought affected wildlife that have been brought to our Wildlife Hospitals.
Did you know it costs us around $35,000 a week to feed our animals?
We remain committed to securing a shared future for wildlife and people, and one thing we know for sure is the needs of our wildlife both here in Australia, in the wake of the recent bushfires and drought, and across the globe are more urgent than ever. Your participation and fundraising for Run Wild for Taronga mean the world to us.
That’s why we’re asking you to sign up to the Run Wild for Taronga challenge for $15. If you can please continue to support with a donation or fundraising for us as part of the challenge – no matter how big or small, it will make a difference and feed one of our special residents. Please give what you can today and remember all donations over $2 are tax deductible.
The money raised in Run Wild for Taronga will help support feeding and caring for our beloved animals across both Zoos

Our elephants, along with their regular diet of hay and grass, love to eat fruits, peanuts and sweet potato as treats. Sugar cane and banana are two other treats they enjoy too. By raising $100 you can help provide our amazing elephant herd with their favourite treats.
